Unwavering, unconditional, unending. Three words that will always accurately describe the love that God has given us, and will continue to give. God’s love is given to us that we might be able to show it to others. But in order to show this unconditional, constant love we must accept and truly understand what that means. As people, we tend to love when we feel its deserved, or beneficial to us.
If God loved by these standards, not a single one of us would feel His love. If God Himself, this larger then life being, loves us without a second thought through every sin, every bump, and every hiccup, then who are we to love on our own terms? We are not our own. Christ bought us back with a price and now we are called to imitate Him, and grow in the likeness of Him. In this process, we are to love in the same way He loves. Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Being in Swaziland has a funny way of softening the heart of anyone that steps foot in the country. A culture shock, if you will. The people of Swaziland live off of close to nothing every day. 63% of Siswati people live below the poverty line. In order to be below the poverty line in Swaziland you aren’t guaranteed a meal every day, Yet these people still find it in their hearts to love us with all that they are, and with true, genuine love. We have had the privilege of serving the kids at Timbutini and Ntabas. and then being served by them. Today we also had the opportunity to visit the Spraggs and love on them and their family by praying over their land. Hearing their testimony of how they were called to own land in this country came to acquire that land is a beautiful example of how the Lord’s love is sovereign.
As we prepare to go home, we are called to remember how to love. Even though people may be rude, or not understanding, we are called to love with three words in mind.
Unwavering, unconditional, and unending.
