There are many medical and dental missionaries positioned throughout the world, and many live in the remote areas of Asia. Every other year, the Christian Medical Dental Association Education arm (CMDA/DMDE) provides continuing education in the various fields of the healing arts to allow physicians and dentists on the field retain their licenses to practice, without the expense and time lost returning to the U.S. for those practice updates.

In 2015, Warren Baptist partnered with CMDA to provide support for the missionary families attending the eleven-day conference in the beautiful mountains above Chiang Mai, Thailand.   A team of sixteen from Warren, composed of four area doctors and a team of children’s leaders, traveled to Thailand to be a part of this effort, serving over five hundred conference attendees of all ages. The doctors served as faculty, each presenting multiple continuing education lectures for missionaries. The children’s leaders provided an energetic, engaging time of learning and fellowship for the sixty five school age children who came to Chiang Mai with their parents.

By providing a morning experience for the children similar to VBS, and an afternoon experience more camp like in nature, we focused on the big idea of Friendship; how God wants us to be friends to each other, and how He is our faithful, forever friend. Afternoons were like a fun camp, with swimming, recreation, crafts, games, and more friends!

As a team, we left Warren with an appreciation for the sacrifice made by our missionaries abroad.   Meeting them, loving them, caring for them, and praying for and with them deepened our understanding of the depth of their commitment to serve the people throughout Asia as they share Jesus Christ with them. To realize that the children we all got to know and love live in often very isolated circumstances, far from other families like their own, gave us a window into their world, and underlined the importance of gathering them for this conference, to allow them, in a relaxed and safe setting, to be kids with other kids.

IMG_4783 copyWarren and CMDA have again planned to partner in Thailand in February 2017, to provide support for this gathering. Planning is already underway to provide the best possible experience for the children and their families.   Several members of the first team are able to return on this follow up trip, and new team members are praying about also being a part of this work.  Consider coming with us to Chiang Mai, to care for those who are the caregivers; who love and serve Christ selflessly throughout Asia.   There are information meetings on Sept. 28th and Oct. 5th at 7:30 pm to find out more about this trip. If you bring a heart of love for these children, we will equip you to laugh and learn right alongside them!
